Magewell XI100DUSB-HDMI HDMI to USB 3.0 Video Capture Dongle

As usual, high-end USB adapters like this will not work on older hardware. What many don't realize is that the i3, i5 and i7 CPUs that are older than 5 years simply cannot handle HDMI to USB input. The USB 3.0 controller chipsets built-in were total garbage up until 2010. After that, everybody switched to the proper USB 3 version and all has been well.

Magewell claims it will work over USB2.0 -- but end users have found that's only at Standard Definition, not HD.

Laptops that struggle with this device:

Any AMD "A" or "E" series. The only one from this series that won't choke is the WalMart exclusive HP 'Sonoma', a red colored laptop with the updated USB 3 chipset.

Laptops that will work best:

All modern intel i5 and i7 CPU based units. Celeron, Pentium and i3 lack the required built-in chipsets.

Apple Mac OS X is a crapshoot; depending upon the current OS update, the Magewell may or may not work. There's no way to determine which one will, so it's best to avoid Macs altogether, unless they've running Windows on it (oh, the irony!)

Desktops are highly recommended for this device!

About LAPTOPS and How to Keep 'Em Running

OVERHEATING.

The reason is very simple -- they collect dust inside the unit, AWAY from the intake and out-vents. Blowing compressed air into it won't make the dust budge. Particles have grip, and will just stay put.

To remove dust, they will need to take it to a stand-alone repair shop that knows how to dissect laptops, and clean out the fans, the bearings, heat-sinks, crevasses, around the harddrives -- in short, a TOTAL clean-out job. Service like that should cost between $60 to $100 and should take 3 to 5 business days to turnaround. They're paying for the tech's time, more than for cleaning. Techs have the tools and devices necessary to safely and properly open/dissect laptops without breaking them -- so if they think they're going to save a few bucks and do it themselves, they deserve whatever bad things happen.

Dissection Cleaning should be done once a year.

PLACES to AVOID AT ALL COSTS:

OfficeDepot, OfficeMax, Staples, BestBuy 'Geek Squad', WalMart (not kidding) Conn's, Frys and any other big store that offers 'service'.

Call around to large corporate offices, hospitals and universities for service center referrals.

Elgato HD60

We've had an increase of people who are getting the Elgato capture device and come to find out it does not work with our recommended Broadcasters. El Gato Game Capture's software is NOT a supported program with our livestreaming service.

As of now OBS studio is the only software to work with El gato's capture device.

***Elgato Game Capture HD does not work with Open Broadcaster Software for OS X or Windows 7.***

There is a work around for Windows pc's but depending upon your set up and computer, as it is not reliable. Although we've had success in many cases livestreaming through RevmediaTV.

Here is a link on how to get started.

https://help.elgato.com/customer/portal/articles/1020250-how-do-i-use-open-broadcaster-software-to-stream-with-elgato-game-capture-hd-

You will need to configure the RTMP server settings in OBS. You can follow this link below on how to get the stream url. (Scroll down past our list of 3rd party Broadcasters to view how to get the server settings.)

http://www.revmediatv.com/manual/dashboard/broadcast-using-3rd-party-broadcasters/about-3rd-party-broadcasters/

Once you've completed these steps you will hopefully be able to Test and view your livestream. Again, OBS and Elgato are not our recommended device and software to stream with. If you choose to continue to stream and this set up works for you, That is great! As RevmediaTV support team does not provide support on these products. Any problems will have to be sought out by you.
